It is no secret that portions of downtown Atlanta once again look as they did during the 1996 Olympic Games. It is all to bring authenticity to a movie about the bombing of Centennial Olympic Park.

Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood is filming a biopic about Richard Jewell, who was working security at Centennial Olympic Park the night of the bombing. Jewell was wrongly implicated in the crime after leaked information from law enforcement made its way into the media. It was later revealed that his actions likely saved hundreds of lives that night.

Eastwood has said one of his goals for the movie is to set the record straight in history's eyes.

Thursday night, the movie crew was filming the actual bombing scene using special effects. Because of that, there was a loud simulated explosion with booms echoing throughout downtown repeatedly well into the morning hours.

It's not yet known when “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” will hit theaters.
