On Wednesday, after nearly 50 years of keeping students and staff safe, 77-year-old Greta Coble is retiring from being a crossing guard.

Coble's enthusiasm is contagious. While she may only interact with the people she calls her "customers" a few moments a day, those moments are memorable.

Skyland Drive has been her office since 1970.  A rickety chair with a padded seat keeps the longtime employee comfortable, and she credits a large tree with keeping her cool in the warmer months and shielding her from wicked winds in the winter.

"Miss Greta," as she's known, also works in the Britt Elementary School cafeteria in between her school "rush hours." She's only missed work twice her entire career. Several students gifted her flowers while our FOX 5 camera recorded one of her last shifts.

Congratulations, Miss Greta!  Happy retirement.
