Animal shelters desperately need water after main break

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County's water main break isn't just affecting local businesses, schools, and showers. It's also affecting animals waiting for their forever homes.

A spokesperson for Lifeline Animal Project said in an email that they and DeKalb County Animal Services were desperately in need for water for the hundreds of animals in their care.

The water is not just used for keeping the dogs and cats hydrated, officials said, but also to clean kennel runs and cages so that the animals can remain safe and healthy.

DeKalb County residents were already stepping up to the task when FOX 5 visited the Avondale branch of Lifeline Animal Project, filling up part of their hallway with water.

The Avondale Estates Police Department also joined in, with three cars showing up to the shelter with much-needed gallons.
