Covington Officer Matt Cooper goes home from rehab
COVINGTON, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Covington Police Officer Matt Cooper will be home for Christmas! Just three months after being shot by a gunman who took his own life, Officer Cooper is finally going home.

Cooper was shot in the head on Sept. 3 while responding to a shoplifting call at a Walmart. The bullet hit his carotid artery. He underwent several surgeries including one to relieve swelling on his brain at Grady Memorial Hospital. A week later, was transferred to the Shepherd Center to begin rehab.

Wednesday, Officer Cooper graduated from the facility’s inpatient brain injury rehab program.
His friends, family, and coworkers were all there to help him celebrate.
Members of the Covington Police Department then gave him and his family a police escort as they left the facility.
