Atlanta Humane Society opens emergency shelter
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Humane Society has set up a temporary emergency shelter for up to 1,000 animals after Georgia officials reached out with the request.
The shelter was set up in hours in a 60,000 square foot building that is now fully operational with separate areas for cats and dogs. It is located at 1425 Market Boulevard in Roswell.
AHS is expecting hundreds of animals to be in the facility before Hurricane Irma potentially passes through Atlanta on Monday.
The shelter is prepared to receive animal post-Irma if needed and will be operational as long as needed.
