The city of Atlanta has reached a half-million-dollar settlement with a woman who lost her arm in a crash involving an Atlanta Police officer.

This all centers around an accident last February on Peeples Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. Officer Dejoira Phillips was responding to a call when she ran a red light and struck the car driven by Lisa Williams. Officer Phillips was in a marked patrol car at the time and her emergency lights were in use.

Medics rushed both drivers to the hospital. Doctors had to amputate William’s left arm.

Williams filed a lawsuit against the city and testified before a grand jury last week.

The Atlanta City Council Public Safety Commission approved the $500,000 settlement Tuesday.
