Atlanta UPS driver retires after 43 years with no accidents
ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - An Atlanta UPS driver is retiring after 43 years with an amazing record.
Jimmy Howard started driving for UPS back in 1975 and hasn't had one single accident, which is pretty incredible when you consider Atlanta traffic.
Howard says he never imagined being with UPS this long, but says it's been such a rewarding experience.
He was just 22 years old when he joined the company more than four decades ago.
Howard started out doing deliveries, then he was promoted to the company's feeder routes.
That means he went from driving a delivery truck to a tractor trailer.
His daily route took him from Atlanta to Mississippi – roughly 525 miles round tirp.
So how did he drive accident-free for so many years both professionally and personally? Howard said it's not just one thing that helped.
"A lot of luck, but I think God's been with me most of the way," he said. "And great training from our management staff."
Now he's driven more than 6 million miles throughout his career.
Howard said what he'll miss most are his coworkers and the people he's met along the way.
