City Council votes to ban Airbnb in parts of Brookhaven
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Airbnb has been banned in many parts of the City of Brookhaven.
Earlier this month, the city council voted to ban short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods zones RS and RSA.
Short-term rentals are still allowed in areas zoned for multifamily, mixed-use and the Peachtree Road Overlay with an approved Special Land Permit (SLUP). That includes parcels zones RM, MX1, MX2, PRE2, and PR3.
It will still allow short-term rentals in apartment complexes in certain circumstances.
What makes the vote more interesting is the dad of one of the Airbnb executives sits on Brookhaven’s city council.
Councilman Joe Gebbia recused himself from the council discussion and vote. His son, Joe Gebbia, Jr., is one of the company's co-founders.
