10-year-old girl shot in southwest Atlanta
ATLANTA - A 10-year-old girl is in the hospital Thursday morning after a gunman opened fire on her southwest Atlanta home.
Police said the shots were fired outside of the child's home on Susan Lane around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
“It was like ‘pow, pow, pow,’ back-to-back… back-to-back,” said neighbor Melinda Tilley, who lives just a few doors down from where police said someone fired shots.
Two of those bullets hit a 10-year-old girl as she sat on the couch in her home watching television. According to police, she was hit twice, once in the leg and once in the buttocks.
Investigators said the child is in stable condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Egleston Hospital.
Atlanta Police at this point don’t have a motive and can’t say for sure if this was random of if the shooter targeted someone in this home. It is unclear if the shots were fired by someone on the street or in a vehicle.
