Clarkston condo units being demolished

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Changes are coming to the Clarkston community in DeKalb County where a part of a condominium complex is now under demolition.

Thursday morning, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced the plans for demolishing two buildings at the Brannon Hill Condominium which sits on Hampton Street.

Thurmond said this is part of a revitalization project to improve public health and safety as well as residents' quality of life. Officials said this phase of work will address 28 of the more than 100 units that are in disrepair.

Officials said phase two of the project will take place later this year and will include the demolition of the two other buildings.

Construction crews said about 122 units at the complex have already been demolished and just under 200 are still inhabited.
