Dawson County high-school student killed in crash

DAWSON, Ga. - A community is mourning after the death of an 18-year-old Dawson County high-school student was killed Monday morning in a car accident.

Police say the crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Georgia State Route 53 and Buddy Burt Road in Dawson.

Officials said that the crash occurred when 18-year-old Grace Elizabeth Sheer loss control of her vehicle, entering the opposing lane. She struck a tractor-trailer driven by 42-year-old Edwin Thomas Kincannon Jr. was involved in the accident.

Sheer was killed in the crash. Kincannon was not injured. Both were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

The Dawson County Sheriff's Department has asked the community to join them in keeping the family and friend "in our thoughts and prayers."

The Georgia State Patrol is now investigating the crash.
