The general manager of a D.C. restaurant is fighting for his life after he was shot during a robbery in Atlanta.

Christian Broder is in critical condition after he was wounded in the abdomen early Sunday morning in Northeast Atlanta. Police said the 34-year-old victim was with three other people waiting for an Uber after leaving a wedding reception at the Capital City Club when the robbery and shooting occurred.

According to police, a white Dodge Charger with two men inside approached the group while they were waiting for their Uber ride. One of the men got out from the passenger side of the vehicle and pulled out a handgun demanding their belongings. After the victims complied by giving up their cellphones, wallets and other valuables, the suspect attempted to return to the vehicle.

Police said Broder attempted to follow the suspect and that led to the suspect firing a shot at Broder, hitting him in the stomach. The gunman got into the car and fled the scene.

Broder was transported to Piedmont Hospital following the shooting.

Officials believe Broder may have tried to reason with the gunman to make a request to get his license back.

Atlanta police have released a sketch of the suspect in the shooting.

Police have also released surveillance video of a person of interest involved in a carjacking at a convenience store a couple of days earlier on July 6. Police said the vehicle that was carjacked was used in the robbery and shooting of Broder.

Police also said they are not sure whether this person of interest was involved in both incidents.

Broder is the general manager of Millie's Spring Valley in Northwest D.C. He is married and a father of a 9-month-old child.

Bo Blair, the president of Georgetown Events, said in a statement:

"The Georgetown Events family is devastated by the heartless and cowardly act of violence against our beloved friend, partner and colleague, Christian. He is the loving father of 9 month old Frances, the husband of my wife's sister Molly and the son of the wonderful Broder family of Atlanta. He is in critical condition in intensive care fighting so hard to live. The staff at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta has worked around the clock since Sunday performing one miraculous surgery after another to keep Christian alive. Please pray for him.
