Deputies: Dismembered body found at Bartow County Landfill

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. - It was a grisly discovery at the Bartow County landfill Monday afternoon. Bartow County Sheriff's Investigators said a sanitation worker found a dismembered body part while dumping a compactor.

Investigators said the discovery was made about 12:30 Monday afternoon at the facility on Allatoona Dam Road.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist them. For hours investigators went through the trash, piece by piece, searching for evidence that would help them identify the person and determine what happened to them. 

Several people were at the landfill Monday night.  Many of them talking about what was found here.  One man named Gary, said his thoughts are with the person's family.

"It would be nice for them to find out who it is, and be able to identify them, and to find out who done it," said Gary.

An autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner.  At this point, investigators said it's too early to say if it's a man or woman.
