Fire rips through Fulton County parking lot
ATLANTA - SKYFOX 5 hovered above Central Avenue as Atlanta firefighters tackled a multi-car fire from every direction Friday afternoon as flames move quickly and black smoke billowed into the sky. After the Flames were extinguished, authorities determine 10 cars severely damaged or destroyed by the multi-car fire.
State Court employee Jewel Pyle was stunned to see her Nissan Maxima was nothing more than a charred frame when she arrived at the parking lot located a mile south of the courthouse.
"I'm just shocked I just can't believe he ended up parking next to my car. I'm just really shocked but I guess it's just material things and things can be replaced. I'm just happy it wasn't here when it happened," said Powell as she stood next to her burned sedan.
Atlanta firefighters and police officers worked with Fulton County deputies to take an inventory of the damage and quickly reach owners. Lt. Charyl Chatman said the 911 call came from a security officer who was contacted by a Mercedes Benz driver who had just parked his car.
"Our units arrived 4 minutes after the call came in at 12:25. The driver advised that he pulled into his parking spot and the car started smoking and then burning and that's when he got out of the car to get help," said Lt. Chatman.
