Firefighters: Dog rescued from home, firefighter suffers heat exhaustion during house fire

Firefighters in Smyrna are being hailed heroes after saving the life of a pet during an early morning house fire Tuesday.

It happened at a home in the 1000 block of Chateau Lane around 8:25 a.m. Smyrna firefighters said they arrived to find heavy fire in the attic of a house which was visible from the outside.

During the operation, firefighters were able to locate and rescue the homeowner's pet. The Smyrna Fire Department posted a video showing one firefighter passing the pup through the window of the home to another firefighter. The dog is said to be in good condition.

One firefighter suffered heat-related exhaustion and was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to be checked out.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, but the cause is still under investigation.
