Former United States Ambassador and Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young is returning to Atlanta and is expected to be taken to Emory University Hospital Wednesday afternoon after becoming ill on Sunday.

FOX 5 News has learned that Young was in Nashville over the weekend where he was scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at Fisk University's baccalaureate service. He was originally admitted to Vanderbilt University Hospital.

Young was flown back to Atlanta on a private airplane so he could see his private physician at Emory University Hospital.

The 86-year-old civil rights legend and politician served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during President Jimmy Carter's Administration. He went on to become Atlanta's 55th Mayor from 1982 until 1990.
