DeKalb County high school student arrested for DUI, causing power outage

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police said a drunk driver is to blame for an early morning power outage at a DeKalb County high school and college.

DeKalb County Police said a 20-year-old driver crashed into a utility pole along Indian Creek Drive in front of the Clarkston Campus of Georgia State University Perimeter College around 8:15 a.m. Monday. Officers said the flipped vehicle caused power lines to crash down.

Rescue officials said it took a while to get to the driver due to the downed power lines. The roadway was shut down for a good portion of the day as workers cleared the accident and Georgia Power crews restrung the wires.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

The driver, whose names has not yet been released, walked away with only minor scratches. Police said he is a student at Clarkston High School. He was arrested for DUI.

Classes at Perimeter College were delayed until noon due to the crash.
