Man arrested for shooting mother, 11-year-old son

DeKalb County Police have arrested a suspect in a home invasion and shooting of a woman and her 11-year-old son.

Police responded to a home on the 3100 block of Citrus Court Monday morning. That's where they found a mother and her young son shot multiple times.

On Friday, deputies arrested 34-year-old Damien "Day-Day" Armstead in connection to the crime.

They say he forced his way into the home and shot the woman several times while her three children slept in their beds.

DeKalb Sheriff's investigators tell FOX 5 that they found Armstead hiding in the woods near an apartment complex.

He's now facing charges of aggravated assault, felony cruelty to a child, home invasion, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Medics rushed both the mother and son to a local hospital. They are expected to survive their injuries.
