Missing Rockdale County 4-year-old dies after being found in pond
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. - A 4-year-old who went missing during a family gathering has died after being found in a nearby pond.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said that they received a call from a home on the 3300 block of Flat Stone Court of a missing 4-year-old at 8:53 p.m. on Saturday.
The caller told police that 4-year-old Legend Benton was last seen on camera at around 7:37 p.m.
Rockdale deputies, the Canine Unit, Conyers Police Drone began a search in the area.
A little while later, a K9 officer found Benton in a pond near the home around 11:05 p.m..
Firefighters did CPR during the transportation of Benton to a nearby hospital, but they say he did not survive.
Officials have not yet released how Benton got to the pond or whether the investigation is still ongoing.
A candlelight vigil for Benton will take place 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Denny Dobbs Park.
