Newton County Sheriff’s deputy Joshua Hicks testified he came upon McNabb, who said he had searched for his daughter in the woods, near the family’s residence. Hicks said McNabb was wet and muddy.
Little Caliyah’s body was discovered in a bag in woods near the couple’s mobile home park the next day. The coroner determined the infant died of blunt force trauma.
In the police video, Bell and McNabb claim they woke to find the baby missing and the door to their trailer ajar.
Testimony resumes Wednesday. Jurors are scheduled to visit the site where searchers located the infant’s body.
