A Henry County neighborhood is left in devastation after an armed man shot and killed a teenager and his pregnant mother inside their home.

Neighbors said they woke up feeling sick to their stomachs. Many came to the crime scene bring flowers, and while many were frustrated at being locked out of their neighborhood Friday, the weight of this tragedy has pushed all of that away.

“Me being a mother, I was upset because that young man was in the house,” said neighbor Carla Shannon. “It just hurt my heart.”

Shannon’s hurt, shared by so many hearts in this community.

“When I saw the pictures today, that’s what really got me,” said neighbor Lena Holt. “Because yesterday I was so anxious to get home, you know, you just really realizing the impact of that 16-year-old being in that house for all those hours,” Holt said.

Henry County Police got a 911 call Thursday morning from a woman saying her sister was hurt inside the garage of a Stockbridge home. Body camera captured the terrifying moment officers entered the home.

One officer was shot in the torso and the hip as soon as he walked through the door. Another officer shot in the hand. But, now that that panic has ended, the community is left empty without a mother and a young man who friends described as: “Nothing but peace to be honest and he was so chill,” said classmate Robert Williams.

Through all this pain, the community wants the family to feel their love.

“Family is everything, it is,” said Holt. “I want the family to know if there’s anything I can do, I’m here.”
