Numerous dogs neglected, canine trainer investigated

BETHLEHEM, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Volunteers and veterinary medical staff worked hours into the night to care for a dozen dogs seized Thursday from the Dalton home of a canine trainer. 

Dalton Police said numerous dogs belonging to Stephen Kinder, along with those of clients kept in his home, were in some of the worst conditions they had ever seen. 

Non-profit Canine Pet Rescue worked with Happy Tails Veterinary Care in Bethlehem to assess the health of the animals and give them vaccinations. Authorities with Whitfield County Animal Shelter said the dogs were left in their own crates, covered in their filth, and were severely underfed. 

County officials said the owners of the other dogs in the home, who they believed were clients of Kinder, retrieved their animals during the raid.  

Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd and Argentinian Dogo breeds were among the dogs seized that belonged to Kinder. Dalton Police said they were unsure what Kinder was doing with canines of those breeds, often used for working purposes among law enforcement. 

Also Thursday,  in Cleveland Tennessee, Kinder was found dead after he committed suicide. According to FOX affiliate WTVC, Kinder had multiple charges of animal cruelty after his clients claimed he neglected their pets at his Cleveland-based Kinder Dog Training.
