Authorities working to identify body found in Chattahoochee River
ATLANTA - Authorities were called out to the Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta Tuesday night after a body was discovered in the water.
Multiple agencies responded before 10 p.m. to Chattahoochee River behind the Atlanta Public Safety Annex located along Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway near the city limits.
Firefighters said they were having problems reaching the body and believe it is entangled in some of the overgrown brush and trees from just off the bank of the river. Officials said they were also having problems finding an access point to launch boats into the water.
Officials only described the body as being “badly decomposed.” Investigators said a gender, race, or age range could not immediately be determined.
Detectives with the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit were also at the scene.
Authorities did not immediately release who or how the body was discovered.
The recovery operation is on-going.
