Police are investigating a shooting that sent one Georgia State student to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Georgia State University Police say they received a call around 5 Saturday morning of a person shot in front of University Commons on the 100 block of Piedmont Ave. When police got to the scene, they say they found a student inside a vehicle with injuries to his neck and face.

Officers detained three other people inside the car and say that they discovered the weapon and a bag of marijuana.

While the motive for the shooting is unknown, police say statements from the witnesses point to a discussion about going to another location and using drugs right before the shooting happened.

One unidentified suspect has been arrested for the shooting and is currently in the Fulton County Jail.

Police also said the suspect's sister was driving the car and drove off, returning to the scene slightly later. She told police she did not know why her brother shot the gun.

Medics transported the student to Grady Hospital. Officials say he is expected to survive his injuries.
