Police charge passenger with killing driver on I-285
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County Police charged a man Thursday in connection with the shooting death of his friend inside of a car on I-285.
The deadly shooting took place early Thursday morning on I-285 northbound near Flat Shoals Road.
Police said 41-year-old Mario Washington was shot by one of two passengers in the back seat of the vehicle he was driving, shortly after he picked up his wife from work.
Medics rushed Washington to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Medics also took Washington’s wife to Grady because she suffered a panic attack after the shooting.
Police charged 29-year-old Cedrick Martin with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death.
DeKalb County Police Spokesperson Shiera Campbell told FOX 5’s Aungelique Proctor Martin was a friend of Washington and has expressed regrets about the incident.
Campbell said the fourth person in the car was a relative of Washington and was not injured.
