Police: 'grenade scare' in Buckhead wasn't an explosive
ATLANTA - Authorities gave the “all clear” early Monday evening after investigating a report of a possible grenade found inside a returned rental car in Buckhead.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said they were called out to the Hertz car rental location in the 3200 block of Peachtree Road just after 4 p.m.
Police said the possible grenade was found in a silver Ford Edge.
Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution as authorities with the bomb squad continue to investigate and a portion of the street was closed.
Everything has since returned to normal.
Police say that the grenade turned out to be a novelty item which may be a paperweight.
They do not anticipate any charges being filed.
