Police: Robbery set-up ends in shooting, female suspect in custody
ATLANTA - A robbery attempt ended in a shootout and two men in the hospital early Tuesday, and the person orchestrating the crime, according to Atlanta police, is a woman who knew both.
The encounter started on Thurmond Street around 1:30 a.m. Investigators said two men and a woman were all in one vehicle and the driver had a stack of cash on him. At some point, the other guy tried to rob the driver, and ended up outside the car, shooting the driver several times. The man behind the wheel, according to police, was armed as well and fired back. He then drove to a gas station on Joseph E Lowery Boulevard and called 911.
Police are now talking to the woman in the car. They believe she may have set up the robbery attempt. She was not injured in the gunfight.
Both men are in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, being treated for gunshot wounds. The accused robber will face aggravated assault charges.
