Police: Search for gunman after deadly gas station shooting
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The manhunt for a gunman is underway in DeKalb County after a man was shot and killed outside a busy gas station Monday evening.
It happened at the intersection of North Hairston Road and Central Drive around 6:30 p.m. DeKalb County Police said a man was shot near the gas pumps at the Quick Stop Food Mart. Investigators said he managed to make it into the store where he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Several family members of the man showed up at the gas station on Monday evening. As they met with investigators and comforted each other, a family friend said the man who was shot was just 18 years old. He said he had no idea who shot him.
Danyale Harris was driving by and saw all the police cars outside the Food Mart and just had to stop and find out what happened. She said she lost a friend in a shooting at the same gas station within the past year.
"Same gas station, same location. It's scary. People need to put down their guns. People are dying. We need to communicate," said Harris.
The food mart was roped off with police tape as detectives searched for evidence for several hours Monday night.
Police spent the evening collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance video, hoping to get a good description of the gunman and learn what led up to the deadly shooting.
The name of the victim has not officially been released by police.
