Police: Suspects exchange fire in Goodwill parking lot
ATHENS, Ga. - Police in Athens-Clarke County are investigating a possibly gang-related shooting that happened on Friday night.
Officials say that they responded to a call about shots being fired around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of a Goodwill on Lexington Road.
Witnesses reported suspects running from the area while "holding pistols with extended clips," police said.
When authorities got to the parking lot, they saw that at least five vehicles had been damaged and that there were shell casings on the ground.
The casings indicated that suspects were shooting at each other from opposite sides of the parking lot, officials said.
After an investigation, police followed information to trace some of the potential shooters to an apartment complex on Gaines School Road. There, they searched the apartment and recovered three handguns.
Officials say that they arrested two men in the apartment, Damari Jones and Mortavius Crew, for aggravated assault and gun charges.
Officials believe the incident is related to a group of recent possibly gang-related shootings in the Athens area.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
