One student has been killed and another has been injured in a car accident in Clayton County.

Morrow Police said that the two students, who went to a Community Christian School in Stockbridge, were skipping class as part of the school's senior skip day.

"We are going to have an empty seat at graduation," Community Christian School senior Tyrik Wynn said.

Tyrik Wynn spoke with FOX 5 News on Monday, he said he was on his way home when he noticed lots of police cars in a wooded area off Interstate 75 south near exit 233.

"I slowed down and I saw the car and I thought that it looked familiar," Wynn said.

Wynn had no idea that two of his classmates were involved in the crash.

"I started to get a ton of texts and that's when I found out," Wynn said.

Police said the two girls were heading to a local mall to shop for spring break when the driver, 17-year-old Jonesboro resident Cristina Pavon-Baker, lost control of the car and hit a tree.

"I've known them for four years," Wynn said. "We had fifth period together. I saw them at prom on Saturday. They were just great girls to be around."

The 18-year-old passenger in the car, Makayla Penn, died at the scene.

"It was supposed to be a fun day for seniors to get to enjoy while the rest of school has class," Wynn said.

Pavon-Baker has been transported in critical condition to Grady Memorial Hospital.

"Our CCS family is heartbroken and saddened by a tragic car accident that occurred this morning involving two of our students," the school's headmaster Fred Banke said in a statement. "We ask our
community to pray with us and with our students as we grieve this devastating loss.  We also ask for prayer for the recovery of our injured student and healing for our school family."

The school will host a prayer vigil for the two girls at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
