Surveillance video released in 71-year-old woman's murder
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Authorities need help identifying a man wanted in connection with the murder of a Sandy Springs senior citizen last month.
Kay Thomasson, 71, was found dead around 7 p.m. on June 27 at her home on Old Woodbine Road. Investigators believe the actual murder took place earlier that morning.
Sandy Springs Police have released surveillance video from Thomasson's home, in hopes of someone recognizing the man seen in the footage.
“Our mom was such a loving member of this community for over 40 years. All of us went to school here. We know this is a community that takes care of their neighbors and we are asking you now to help take care of one who mattered greatly to us, " said Thomasson's daughter, Katie Gryglas, with tears in her eyes at a news conference Monday morning.
According to police, the suspect is also responsible for taking Thomasson's 2012 Kia Sorrento, which was found at an apartment complex in Chamblee. No word on if the suspect lives in the apartment complex.
The suspect is described as a black male with a medium build. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sandy Springs Police Department or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
Police have increased the reward to $100,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
"We hope that the $100,000 reward will give us a little more interest in the case and provide someone with some more incentive to give more leads in this case for investigators to follow up," said Deputy Chief of Police Keith Zgonc.
