Police: Teenager murdered walking down street
ATLANTA - A 16-year-old was shot and killed while walking down his own street late Sunday night.
Police said the gunfire rang out before 11 p.m. on northwest Atlanta's Lake Valley Road. The teenage victim, Jequan Strozier, was shot once in the chest. He managed to make it home, which was only four or five houses down from the shooting scene.
According to police, the Douglass High School student's mother called 911, then paramedics rushed him to Grady Memorial Hospital where sadly he was pronounced dead.
Detectives said no one else was hurt. Police said they have no motive or suspects, but the family and a former coach believe the killing can be traced back to a high school fight. Julius George, who mentored the 16-year-old boy, said kids now settle disputes with a gun instead of their fists.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest.
