MARTA, Uber resumes all service Wednesday

ATLANTA - The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the mass transit service in Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties, and Uber, the ride-sharing service, resumed service Tuesday after suspending service Monday as Irma’s powerful winds and heavy rain bands moved into north Georgia and metro Atlanta.

MARTA, who announced it would resume service on a limited basis on Tuesday, said the transit system will be fully operational on Wednesday. 

Officials assessed facilities, track, and roadway conditions on Tuesday. MARTA had suspended all bus and rail service due to the severe weather conditions.

On Monday, Uber said it would cease its service to metro Atlanta also due to the weather and said it would resume service Tuesday.

The service interruption came at the request of Gov. Nathan Deal, who urged all Georgia residents to shelter in place on Monday and Tuesday. The governor also closed public schools for the first two days of the week and placed all of Georgia under a state of emergency ahead of the storm.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has opened an emergency shelter and urged residents to remain off the roadways.

“The projected impact of this approaching storm requires us to suspend all MARTA service for Monday. We will continue to coordinate with state and local officials and emergency personnel to determine our service schedule for Tuesday,” said MARTA GM/CEO Keith Parker. “Safety remains our top priority for both our customers and employees.”
