Not the best of Mother's Day for outdoor plans, but it will not rain and storm all the time.

Most of us were pleasantly surprised Saturday afternoon with rain-free conditions and warm tempertures, but the forecast for this Mother's Day is looking unsettled.

Widespread impacts as far as heavy rain will be likely through midday and then the weather pattern will shift to more of a hit or miss scenario. Even though the coverage of storms won't be as great as the first half, the intensity of the storms will be much greater.

There is a "level 2" risk for severe storms along and east of I-85 through sunset Sunday. Damaging winds will be the main threat, but localized flooding, frequent lightning, small hail and even a brief spin-up tornado will be possible too.

Thankfully, the storms fade overnight and we will all be able to rest easy.

Temperatures will remain on the seasonal side with highs in the 70s to near 80 and lows in the 60s.

Much drier air is expected next week.
