Atlanta area kids go on 'safari' at Zoo Atlanta summer camp

ATLANTA - You might not have the funds to send your child on an educational wildlife safari through South Africa or Kenya this summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t send your little adventurer on a summer trip to learn about the world’s most fascinating animals.

Zoo Atlanta’s Safari Day Camps are back for the summer, running in week-long sessions through August 3.  Camps are open to kids ages four to 14 years old and include half-day sessions (for children ages four to six), full-day Junior Ranger Camp (for ages five to seven), full-day Ranger Camp (ages eight to 11), and Quest Camp (for youth ages 12 to 14). 

Each week is devoted to a different theme, and this week, campers are celebrating an Animal Carnivale, specifically devoted to animals found in the Bayou.  Campers will spend part of the week making their own animal costumes for the Zoo Atlanta Animal Carnivale Parade, taking place on Friday.  Other themes later this summer include Incredible Insects and The Magical World of Plants.

The Zoo Atlanta Safari Day Camp runs weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (half-day pickup time is noon to 12:30 p.m.), and the cost is $175 per week for half-day sessions and $319 per week for full-day sessions.
