Khori Hagues was only 9 years old when he said he was bullied for the first time.
"I was in fourth grade and there was a boy who bullied me at school," Khori Hagues said. "I was terrified and I didn't have the courage to stand up for myself."
Hagues said one day after school the bullying got even worse when the bully attacked him so severely at a local park, the bully broke Hagues' hip.
"My daughter came rushing home to tell me Khori had been attacked," Khori's mom Turpin Hagues said. "Our life changed forever at that moment. Khori had to have surgeries and was wheelchair bound. He still needs a hip replacement. I started homeschooling him."
Hagues said as he got older he realized how many other kids faced similar situations.
"I saw on the news so many kids taking their own lives because they were bullied," Hagues said. "I knew I had to do something."
Hagues self-published a book, "Be a Lion at Heart," that shares his first-hand experience with bullying and gives advice to kids facing the same issues.
"I turned my situation into lemonade," Hagues said.
Hagues has donated a copy of his book to several schools in the state.
"We want every school in Georgia to have one and even across the country," Khori's mom said.
"I can give them hope and that's what I want to do," Hagues said.
