KENNESAW, Ga. - Pepperoni, ground beef, Italian sausage, ham, and bacon. Any one of ‘em makes for a good pizza, right? Well, what about all of them together, adding up to an 11 pound monster pie, and you and a friend only have an hour to scarf it all down?
That’s the Carnivore Challenge at Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria, and it’s something that only a small handful of teams have successfully conquered! Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria first opened in Kennesaw back in 2007, and has since grown to include a second location in Roswell, quickly becoming a favorite for its enormous slices, cut from 30-inch pizzas, and specialty pizzas including the Bacon Cheeseburger and the Big Kahuna. But Big Pie in the Sky got a big boost in 2009, when it was featured on the Travel Channel show “Man v. Food” for the Carnivore Challenge, which pits a team of two against an 11 lb. Carnivore Pizza.
Here’s how it works: It’s $50 to try, and two people have an hour to successfully demolish the monster pizza. The whole thing has to be consumed, competitors can’t leave the table once the clock starts, and, well, let’s just say once the pizza has gone down, it can’t come back up again! If the team is victorious, it wins $250 cash — but only a small handful of teams have beat the challenge. And the record, in case you’re wondering, is 33 minutes!
Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken wasn’t brave enough to try the Carnivore Challenge, but he absolutely wanted to be there when somebody else was! So he spent the morning at Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria, getting a look at this truly unique slice of Metro Atlanta!
