Max visits Atlanta program helping veterans
ATLANTA - As many of you know, we're helping teach Max to become a service dog for a disabled veteran. Max recently paid a visit to the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program, just in time for Veterans Day!
Emory Healthcare Veterans Program was established to help post 9-11 veterans from anywhere in the country battling with PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma, and other invisible wounds of service.
"We have a two-week intensive outpatient program," said Outreach Coordinator Shaun Lewis, a 16-year Army veteran. "We take veterans from anywhere in the country. We cover the transportation, the lodging, the meals, and of course the healthcare. While they are here they’ll see a collaborative care from doctors, psychologists, and our expert team for the two-week program. And the results we’ve seen with this program have been truly transformative."
While Max was there Thursday, he was able to show staff members some of the skills he's learning to serve his veteran one day.
Lewis said they often have spaces available, so if you or someone you know is a post 9-11 veteran or service member who needs help, call them at 1-888-514-5345. The program treats veterans regardless of their discharge status and at no cost.
