Star-studded cast headlines Atlanta's 'Black Nativity'

ATLANTA - It's a holiday production featuring some of Atlanta's brightest stars, from a Grammy-winning R&B singer to a Broadway veteran with decades of notable credits to her name.  But the real star of "Black Nativity: A Gospel Christmas Musical Experience" is the message behind the show's powerful music.

"Black Nativity: A Gospel Christmas Musical Experience" is onstage now at the Fulton County Southwest Arts Center, with performances through December 20th.  Written by the legendary Langston Hughes and originally produced in New York back in 1961, "Black Nativity" is a re-telling of the Biblical Nativity story featuring an African-American cast, and has since become a holiday tradition in cities across the country.  This production is adapted and directed by Robert John Connor, and stars Broadway performer Terry Burrell (of "Dreamgirls" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie") and Q Parker of the Grammy-winning R&B group 112.  Parker's been a cast member of the show for four years and says of the experience, "Every November I look forward to being a part of 'Black Nativity' because I know for me, having traveled all year, the last two months of the year, or the last month and a half of the year, I can just re-center myself spiritually, I can get connected to the reason for the season for real."
