'Wheels of Happiness' helping turn Atlanta area teen's life around

An Atlanta organization is bringing their efforts to the states and helping underprivileged adults and kids with motor disabilities and spinal cord injuries.

Enzo Piscopo founded the Wheels of Happiness organization after suffering a spinal cord injury eight years ago.

"I woke up in bed and was going to work, but had the worst pain ever," Enzo Piscopo said. "I had a herniated disc that popped and hit my spinal cord leaving me paralyzed."

Piscopo said the beginning was tough on him, his wife and their four kids.

"We had to get through it and find a new normal," Enzo's wife Gabriela said.

The Piscopo family said that's exactly what they did, create a new normal that centers on helping others.

"I was so fortunate to have the support I needed to get the proper equipment to make things more comfortable, but I realized how challenging this is for people who may not be as fortunate," Piscopo said. "So I knew we had to do something."

Piscopo's foundation has already helped many people in other countries, but Saturday they helped a teen in Tucker.

Back in April, 20-year-old Jose Arreguin suffered a devastating car crash leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

"I tried to get out of the car, but I couldn't," Arreguin said. 

Arreguin said he was hopeless until he came across an article about the Wheels of Happiness.

"My mom showed it to me and showed me that he was in the same place and was helping others," said Arreguin. "I hope one day I can do the same thing Enzo's doing for me and help people in my situation."
