1 dead, 1 injured in head-on collision on Hickory Grove Road in Cobb County

A head-on collision on Hickory Grove Road has resulted in the death of a local man, according to the Cobb County Police Department. 

The crash occurred on Jan. 22 at approximately 3:05 p.m., east of the intersection with Carina Drive.

What we know:

The Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations, Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit is currently investigating the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that a silver 2021 BMW M3, driven by 40-year-old Christopher Johnston of Acworth, was traveling eastbound when it veered into the westbound lane. The BMW collided head-on with a white 2019 Ford Transit, operated by 54-year-old driver from Kennesaw.

Both vehicles remained locked together and came to an uncontrolled stop in the westbound lane. Both drivers were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the Ford Transit sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Johnston suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital despite efforts to save him.
