1 dead after Maserati crashes in Cobb County early Tuesday morning
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - The Cobb County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning on the East-West Connector at its intersection with Felton Hill Road.
What we know:
According to investigators with the department’s Special Operations Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit, the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. Jan. 21 when a white 2015 Maserati M157 traveling westbound on the East-West Connector veered off course. The driver reportedly failed to maintain a single lane of travel and entered the dedicated right-turn lane for Felton Hill Road.
The vehicle then left the roadway, crossing over a raised concrete curb, vegetation, and sidewalk before colliding with a traffic signal pole and its adjacent control box. The Maserati came to a stop with the pole intruding through the vehicle's center. During the crash sequence, the driver was ejected and trapped underneath the vehicle.
What we don't know:
Emergency personnel from the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Authorities have notified the driver's next of kin, though no further details about the victim have been released at this time.
