1 killed in triple shooting outside Brookhaven sports bar
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - Brookhaven Police are investigating a shooting outside a sports bar and grill along Buford Highway which ended with one person dead and two people taken to an area hospital.
It happened at Acapulco Tropical in the 3300 block of Buford Highway at around 2 a.m. Sunday. Police said a cab driver noticed another driver was armed.
“The suspect vehicle pulled up next to the victims, presented a weapon, and that's what prompted the driver to drive away from that particular part of the parking lot,” said Officer Carlos Nino, Brookhaven Police Department.
The cab driver didn’t get too far as the shooter opened fire striking the passenger in the cab.
“The deceased, Kevin Carranza Acosta was struck once in the back,” said Officer Nino.
The shooter pursued the cab, putting a bullet in cabbie's shoulder in the process.
“And that's where the third victim, who was sitting in her car, was struck,” said Nino.
The cab driver and the third victim were rushed to an area hospital, but are expected to survive.
As for why the shooting happened, police are looking for answers.
"We're not sure. Our investigators are trying to find out what the motive behind all this might have been,” said Nino.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Brookhaven Police or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
