19-year-old killed over cellphone in southwest Atlanta shooting, police say

A 19-year-old man was killed in a southwest Atlanta shooting on Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 2:48 p.m. in the 300 block of Holderness Street SW near Greenwich Street SW.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers arrived to find a 19-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Lt. Andrew Smith, APD Homicide Unit commander, says investigators have identified a person of interest who fled the scene on foot. Investigators believe the two men had gotten into an argument over a cellphone owned by a mutual friend.

Investigators say the victim did not live in the area, but the potential shooter may have. A total of eight shots were fired, police say.

The names of the men have not been released.

The shooting remains under investigation by APD’s Homicide Unit.
