ATLANTA - In the early hours of this morning, a tragic shooting occurred at Elleven45 Lounge in the Buckhead area of northwest Atlanta, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others.
Atlanta police say a fight inside the lounge on Peachtree Road escalated to gunfire just after 2:00 a.m.
Atlanta Police Department reports indicated that the six victims consisted of three men and three women, ranging in age from 20 to 30 years old. One man and one woman were killed.
"Mothers got that phone call today that their kids didn’t make it," club goer Niicki B said.
She told FOX 5 as a mom, she was heartbroken on Mother’s Day to hear what happened at the club she’s visited many times.
"It’s really, really sad, and I really send my condolences to the families this happened to," she said.
Bash Sepulveda wasn’t there, but told FOX 5 the lounge is a place he frequents for a night out on the town.
He told FOX 5 he believed this incident was part of a larger problem within the city’s nightlife community.
"It’s kinda crazy that it’s starting to become the norm that every club we go to, it’s a shooting," he said.
Police called the shooting "disturbing." While they’re still in the early stages, they told reporters they would conduct a review of surveillance and security protocols at the lounge.
"Our concern [is] to speak to club procedures and letting an individual in with a gun that’ll be part of our investigation," Zone 2 Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said.
Elleven45 released the following statement, in-part, via social media:
"Our hearts go out to all those impacted and we extend our deepest sympathies to the individuals and families who have suffered any loss…the safety and wellbeing of our patrons and staff have always been our paramount concern…in these challenging times, our commitment to the security and safety of our community has only strengthened."
Police have not released any information on a suspected shooter at this time.
The names of the victims have also not been released.
It’s unclear if and when the club will re-open, but that statement from the lounge’s social media post said they were closed Sunday to cooperate with the investigation by police.
