What we know:

On Feb. 4, a Douglas County jury rendered a guilty verdict against Christian Dejerinett, Jermonie Suttles, and Dion Williams for multiple charges, including malice murder and home invasion. Superior Court Judge Deah Warren presided over the trial.

The backstory:

In June 2022, the victim contacted 911 to report suspicious activity outside his apartment. During the call, the victim whispered to the dispatcher, revealing that he had a gun and wanted to stay on the line until police arrived. Moments later, the suspects kicked in the apartment door, and multiple gunshots were heard. The victim informed the dispatcher that he had been shot in the chest. Despite deputies’ swift arrival and attempts to save him, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing a black Camaro fleeing the scene. Investigators identified the driver as Keyako Moore, who later pled guilty to home invasion in November 2024. Through interviews, search warrants, and subpoenas, law enforcement identified Dejerinett and Suttles as the shooters. Cell phone location data confirmed that Moore, Dejerinett, and Suttles were in the area at the time of the murder.

Further investigation uncovered Facebook and text messages between the victim and Dion Williams. Williams had accused the victim of stealing drug money and issued threats, stating that the victim would be the last person to steal from him and that he would show the victim "his reach." Williams sent the victim’s address to Dejerinett and warned the victim that they were coming.

What they're saying:

Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and gratitude for the thorough investigation. "The senseless killing of a member of our community reaches wide and deep. We mourn along with the victim’s family and hope that the jury’s verdict helps them in their path to healing the loss of their loved one. We appreciate the thorough investigation that brought us the evidence to present to this jury so they could see the truth of what happened on that tragic day. We are proud of our team and their efforts to illuminate those facts and secure a verdict that speaks the truth," Racine stated.

What's next:

Sentencing for Dejerinett, Suttles, Williams, and Moore is scheduled for Feb. 7.
