ATLANTA - Three people have been rushed to the hospital after a shooting the Bankhead neighborhood of Atlanta Monday morning.
Officials with the Atlanta police say the shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. on the 600 block of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW at Fox Street.
According to investigators, the incident began when a white Ford driven by a woman with a man and two children in the backseat pulled up to the side of the road to buy a cellphone from another man.
Officials say during the exchange, the group got into an argument which escalated into the man who was selling the phone shooting the two adults in the car. At some point, police say the man was also shot.
A child in the backseat called 911. He and a teenager were not injured.
Witnesses at the scene told FOX 5 the man ran from the scene and tossed a gun. Police later recovered the gun and the phone.
The three adults involved were rushed to the hospital. At this time their conditions are unknown. The two children in the car were not harmed in the shooting.
Police have not released the identity of anyone involved. Investigators say the one of the men who was injured will be charged.
Some northwest Atlanta Residents say they are overwhelmed with violence. People who live in the Kane's Crossing Apartments across the street from the parking lot where the shooting happened believe guns are too accessible in Georgia.
"Somebody needs to talk to (Gov.) Brian Kemp because he's the one who let everybody carry a gun. I don't know why they put him back in office. He doesn't need to be there. There needs to be a ban on guns," resident Irene Carter exclaimed.
Neighbors say they would like to see the area where the shooting happened, cleaned up.
"Don't nothing happen in the apartments. You know it's just across the street. Too many people over there all day long. It's people," resident Bernadine Cony remarked.
The violence is the type of crime police believe better conflict resolution skills could prevent.
The investigation is ongoing.
