Alabama teen charged in shooting death of store clerk

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A teenager has been charged in the shooting death of a store clerk in Alabama.

AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/2sA99pl ) Birmingham police announced Tuesday the arrest of 18-year-old Chandler Bryant in the June 3 slaying of 29-year-old Mike Ngangi, also known as Mike Mulwa. Bryant is charged with capital murder.

Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton says it appears robbery was the motive in the shooting at a Citgo service station. Ngangi had been taken to UAB Hospital, where he underwent surgery and later died.

Bryant was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Authorities have not said how they identified Bryant as the suspect. The teen also has an outstanding robbery warrant with another Jefferson County law enforcement agency.

It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
