Employees at a Starbucks in Alpharetta are planning to join employees across the nation in demanding better pay.

Last-minute holiday shoppers stopping for coffee at a Starbucks in Alpharetta might encounter delays as baristas prepare to strike. Workers at the Haynes Bridge Road and North Point Parkway location plan to join a national demonstration pushing the coffee giant to negotiate a new contract.

The strike, now spanning nine states, including Georgia, calls for a 64% immediate increase in hourly minimum wages, with a total 77% increase over three years.

"We're not out here fighting just for ourselves; we're fighting for baristas nationwide," one worker explained. "We’re fighting for low pay work to no longer be considered low pay work, so we can live in the cities we work in."

The strike at the Alpharetta begin at noon, joining the nationwide push for better wages and working conditions.
