2-alarm apartment fire in College Park leave dozens homeless
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - A large fire broke out early Friday morning at the Langston Apartments on Godby Road, displacing approximately 20 families and damaging at least 24 units.
The blaze was reported around 5 a.m. and heavily affected four top-floor units. Flames and smoke were visible from the upper floors as firefighters from College Park and South Fulton worked to contain the two-alarm fire. SKYFOX 5 captured images around 6:45 a.m., showing intense flames still burning as crews battled the fire.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze continued for hours. Firefighters used thousands of gallons of water to prevent the flames from reigniting due to the building’s structure, which included a collapsed roof.
Residents were forced out into the cold as the fire spread, with many relying on MARTA buses for temporary shelter. The American Red Cross was called to provide assistance to those displaced.
Among the residents impacted was a tenant who had recently moved into the complex and returned home from work to find her apartment destroyed.
No injuries were reported, but several individuals were treated on-site for minor smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
